AFTER more than 32 years, Greg Kachel is saying goodbye to 2NZ/GEM FM.
The well-known radio personality is taking on a new role with Nationals Senator-elect John Williams.
Mr Kachel will be the chief of staff and media officer when the Senate Electorate Office opens in Inverell next month.
Deciding to leave the radio station was hard for Mr Kachel because it has been his passion since he was a young boy.
“I have really loved what I’ve done and I wouldn’t have swapped it for anything,” he said. “But I felt I needed to something else before I got too old and this opportunity came along with Senator-elect Williams.
“I have always had an interest in politics and I am really looking forward to working with him because he is very passionate and I like his work ethics.”
Mr Kachel finishes at 2NZ/GEM FM on July 4.
Other staff members at the new electorate office will be Heather Morris, who is taking on the position of electorate office manager, as well as Garry Lamrock and Debbie Kachel who will be the electorate officers.
Mr Williams said he was pleased with his team.
“Greg is well known for his community work and it will be our obligation to work as a team for the rural communities around NSW,” Mr Williams said.
“ I believe that I have an excellent team of staff members who are very keen to get on with the job of serving our rural towns and districts, and I look forward to commencing this work on July 1 when the new Senate will commence.”
The office will be located at 144 Byron St in the old New England Credit Union building, next to Burtenshaw’s Butchery.
