Riders applauded as they head off on charity ride

INVERELL’S Chris Rodgers joined a team of dedicated cyclists, including seven McDonald’s licensees from across Northern NSW for the fourth annual Hadley Cycles ‘Ride For Sick Kids’ Charity Bike Ride on Sunday.

The riders began an epic seven-day 740 km bicycle ride from Inverell to Newcastle to help raise much needed funds for Ronald McDonald House in the Hunter.

The riders were energised before the big ride, with a fundraising dinner at Riverside Restaurant on Saturday.

Mr Rodgers said he started riding when the fundraiser began four years ago.

“Before that, we were trying hard to think of a new way to raise funds,” he said.

“This is a great way to do it.”

The threat of rain did not deter the team and they took off with gusto and a unanimous “let’s go!”

“I’m looking forward to the challenge and to helping a great cause,” Mr Rodgers said as he left.

The Charity Bike Ride features 20 riders, including Ronald McDonald House in the Hunter CEO, Ross Bingham, McDonald’s corporate staff and seven McDonald’s Licensees including Mr Rodgers from McDonald’s Inverell.

Since 1991, Ronald McDonald House in the Hunter has provided a home away from home for over 5,900 families of seriously ill children.

The ride aims to raise $150,000 in desperately needed funds to assist with the ongoing operation of Ronald McDonald House in the Hunter.

Inverell residents flocked to McDonanlds on Sunday morning to show their support and applauded the group as they began the first leg of the ride to Glen Innes.

Residents can make a donation to Ronald McDonald House in the Hunter by phoning 02 4921 4733 or by visiting www.rideforsickids.org
