GROUP of walkers will be making a difference this weekend.
Tomorrow, a range of people are taking the trek from Inverell to Copeton Dam on foot to raise $18,000 for children in Uganda.
Walk for Watoto organiser Kris Roberts said the walk would be via Auburnvale Rd.
“We are going to camp at Copeton Dam overnight and then walk back the next morning,” Mrs Roberts said.
“It is going to be a fun night with entertainment and food.
“So far we have 35 people registered and we are hoping to get a lot more.”
The money raised from the event will go to Watoto Child Care Ministries, which was established in 1992 to address the Ugandan orphan crisis.
Mrs Roberts said the fundraising walk will help build a home for the children as well as feed, clothe, provide medical needs, schooling and most important dignity in a greatly needed family environment for eight orphaned children with a house mother.
“We need $18,000 to build an Inverell home in Uganda,” Mrs Roberts said.
“I am hoping people will consider a donation or be a part of this memorable moment in Inverell.
“This walk will hopefully create an awareness to look beyond our own needs and for one day, out of privileged life to walk in someone else’s shoes.”
The group will leave from Inverell Life Church at 9am, but walkers need to be there at 8.30am to register.
The walking fee is $20, for more information call Kristine Roberts on 6721 2111 or 0431 363 909.
