TOMORROW’S Central North clash between the Inverell Highlanders and Scone Brumbies looms as a potential semi-final preview according to Inverell coach Ron Walters.
The undefeated Highlanders face their toughest test to date against the competition debutantes who defeated premiers Moree recently.
“From the information I’ve receieved they are a very strong side and to beat Moree at Moree is no easy task,’’ Walters said.
“We are definitely expecting a tough match - they won’t be taking us lightly and we will have to be up to it in all areas.
Walters said his side has been training well and last weekend’s bye round enabled several key players to overcome injury.
Leading forward Joe de Dassel is a likely starter after injuring himself against Barraba two weeks ago.
‘’Joe trained really well on Tuesday and we are confident he will play, his experience is an asset,’’ Walters said.
Central North representative Fergus McIntosh returns to the team.
Walters has been pleased with the progress of the team especially younger players, Tom Woods, Chad Makim and Ranald Burridge.
“We are fortunate to have so much depth and the players know the pressure is on for positions,’’ Walters said.
There will be just two games tomorrow - reserves and first grade as Scone has no junior teams.
The team is Paul Young, Lachlan Bassett, Fergus McIntosh, Joe de Dassel, Tom Woods, Dan Sargeant, Dave Kearsey, Tala Vea, Matt Flanagan, Liam Bonner, Simon Newton, Chad Makim, Will Latham, Jeremy Pilcher, Russell Brien. Reserves - Mick Curtis, Ranald Burridge, Nigel Henley, Luke Thom.
