Those were the words Inverell Jockey Club secretary Leonie Moffitt used to describe the first race meeting of the season.

Despite the fact no Inverell-trained horses won any races, Moffitt said it was a great day out.

"We did have a few of our horses place, which was good," she said.

"Unfortunately the day started off badly when jockey apprentice Chantelle Johnson needed to be taken to hospital after her horse took off on the way to the barriers.

"But the rest of the day ended up being very successful."

Inverell trainer Nancy Stewart placed third with A Lot At Stake in the Thomas Davis Memorial Maiden Plate.

In the third race, the Rating 57 Handicap, Inverell trainer Robert Crowther’s horse Blue Star Cafe came in third behind Gunnedah’s Argine and Jetty’s Road.

Inverell trainer Cliff Beaton’s Sven placed second behind Tennessee Moonlight from Tamworth in the fourth race of the day.

“We had a really good representation of Inverell trained horses and we were really pleased with the day,” Moffitt said.

“The rain held off and it was very enjoyable for all the spectators as well.”

The day was held in conjunction with Thomas Davis, Brown and Co Chartered Accountants to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the business.

“It was great to be able to do that and we had about 350 of their guests attend,” Moffitt said.

“It was a great turn out.”

Moffitt said now the club would start preparing for the Holy Trinity race meeting on October 18.

“It is great to be back in the swing of racing, and we are looking forward to the rest of the season.

“We are still trying to get back the race days we missed out on last year because of the EI outbreak, but we will see what happens.”
