THE boys are back in town!
This weekend the Inverell Junior Championships of Campdraft, Sporting and Rodeo is set to take place at the Inverell Showground.
All the action for spectators starts at 4pm tomorrow with the bareback horse riding and bull riding.
Inverell bull rider Josh Green and bareback rider Troy Thompson are ready to tame Tornado and Evil Angel.
Green said he is pretty nervous about his ride on Tornado, but is also looking forward to getting a ride on the vicious animal.
The 18-year-old has had a few years of experience and can't wait to show his hometown what he can do.
Last Saturday Green was thrown off bucking bull Hogwart after 7.8 seconds.
"I have been attending other rodeos across the state to prepare and also doing weights," he said.
"I am hoping to stay on Tornado the whole time but we will see what happens."
As for Thompson, he will be attempting to ride Evil Angel from Branxton, a horse who has never been ridden bareback before.
"I am pretty nervous," he said.
"But it is going to be a lot of fun.
"I have been preparing by completing track work with about 15 to 18 horses every morning and hopefully it will help me on the day.
"After the Equine Influenza outbreak it has been pretty quiet for me, but I can't wait to get back on.
"All the money I raise from my ride will be going to St John's Ambulance."
This is the first time the championships have been held in Inverell and it has been in the planning for the past 18 months.
"We have about 180 nominations from across NSW and Queensland," co-organiser Wayne Oakenfull said.
"All the action will go for about five hours and the money raised will go to the Inverell Pony Club."
There is about $12,000 in prize money up for grabs, which has all been donated by Inverell businesses.
"We would like to thank all the sponsors for their help because without it we would have never been able to host an event of this capacity," Oakenfull said.
"With all the campdraft and other events we will have about 300 contestants.
"There will also be bar and canteen facilities on the day."
Entry is $5 for children under 16 and pensioners, $10 for adults and $20 for a family.
