Hawks try to keep hopes alive

THE Inverell Hawks will be missing some crucial players when they face the Uralla Tigers at Uralla this weekend to try and keep their finals hopes alive.

Hawks Publicity Officer, Mick Lewis said the team was preparing well but would notice the absence of key players Tim McIntyre and Corey Lewis.

“Tim McIntyre will probably miss Sunday’s clash as he prepares for the birth of his child and Corey Lewis has been knocked about with the flu.

“Apart from those two though we are playing at full strength, captain/coach Andrew le Breton makes a return to the field and we have Sam White, Geoff Searle, Tim Baz and Tom Nelson back.”

Lewis said the Hawks would be relying on their speed and agility to break through to the scoreline.

“Uralla has a big forward pack but what they have in size they lack a bit in mobility.

“We rested key players last weekend and they should be able to break through Uralla’s big forward line if they use their head and the skill we know they have.

“Uralla is above us on the ladder and probably deserves favouritism, if we give Clarrie Moran and Fred Waters any room they will cut us up, but they are vulnerable to footwork which is where our strength lies.”

The Hawks have beaten Uralla earlier in the season and have been playing consistently strong football in recent rounds.

“Our season has been building up to this match, if we win this it keeps our finals dream alive, we have beaten Uralla when they have had a full strength side and I think we can do it again.”
