TRAINER Mick Price's ability to secure an outstanding racehorse continued yesterday when former New Zealand three-year-old Lord Tavistock impressively won the Best Dressed Handicap over 1400 metres at Flemington and is now a genuine contender for next month's group 1 Caulfield Guineas.

Price, who has one of the most in-form stables in Australia, believes Lord Tavistock has the brilliance and scope to win the guineas.

"Firstly, I've got to say that Craig's [Newitt] ride was fantastic," Price said yesterday.

"This is the new Craig Newitt you're seeing and that was absolutely faultless.

"He's a lovely horse who had his run timed to perfection today, and now he's secured a run in the Caulfield Guineas and that's exactly what we had planned for him.

"I know it's tempting to go on to the derby but I just want to leave it at the guineas because I think that's as far as he'll go this time in."

Lord Tavistock was impressive at Caulfield when making his Australian debut and his performance yesterday complemented his first-up performance.

Lord Tavistock started at $3.30 after blowing from $2.70 favourite and scored by a half length from Romneya.
